More Rules To Live By
By Lori Okami
Most of those who successfully maintain their weight and healthy lifestyle habits have created “rules” they generally live by. You don’t want to tackle too many at once. Remember, it takes several weeks to solidify a habit. More importantly, you want to create WINS. Set yourself up for success by selecting one that you have a degree of confidence that you can conquer. Wins build confidence to take on more…and more. Before you realize it, you’ve made life changes that work!
- No eating after 7pm
- At least one Fiber, Fruit or Veggie per meal
- Drink one cup of water before each meal
- Never eat more than a fist-sized portion of complex carbs at once
- Eat only whole grain carbs
- Have no more than one cheat meal per week
- Check weight every Sunday morning
- Exercise at least 3 times per week no matter how busy
- Do bedtime stretches daily
- Do morning stretches daily
- No more adding salt or soy sauce to foods
- Have red meat up to twice a week
- Switch the nightly ice cream to fruit
- Shop every Saturday at the Open Market for fresh produce
- Get to bed by 10 pm daily
- Switch to lean proteins
These are just a handful of examples. Several of these have worked well for me over the years. Create your own that take you another step in the right direction toward improved health maintenance.
*** I invite you to visit my website www.lifefitnet.com and participate in a short online survey that should take only 2-3 minutes to complete. I know it sound crazy years ago I stopped eating French fries and all sweets including cakes, pies and ice cream. I very rarely cheat. After a while you get so use to this and you do not miss it.

Hi guys! Sorry so late!
Hey Ukuhead!
I know what you mean for #1. Hey, make up your own that works for you. Recently, the 7pm cut off hasn't been working for me either--getting off of work at 6:30pm. Ha, ha with the shoyu. For most meals, I've stopped adding extra.
Hi betterlatethannever!
Cute. Hey, these are not steadfast rules--just examples. You've got to make your own list that works.
Hi there 808Dad!
Wow! I'm totally impressed. You've just named some of my favorite foods--though I have cut down a lot. You're right, I don't crave it like I used to and have it by far less often than ever before. If I get it once in a few months, that's a lot.
Hope all is well. I've been crazy busy but appreciate you all hanging in!!!
Aloha,
Lori
